Modern / Rustic Bathroom Renovation

This was a complete transformation. The client was looking for a clean, modern finish and wanted to incorporate wood to warm up the space. The client also wanted to use colours like grey, white, and black but did not want it to feel cold.

This space is a dual purpose space; a bathroom and a space to do the laundry. Originally, when you walked into this room, you immediately saw the laundry machines with built in cabinets surrounding it. Next, was the toilet, then a corner shower stall with a pedestal sink. As much as this was very functional, it was not appealing to the eye.

For the design, we kept it simple, functional, and calming. The overall space was 13’ x 6’ and behind the door to the bathroom was 52 in x 30 in., and due to the rooms beside this bathroom, we were not able to move any walls, as well, the toilet had to stay in the same place.

Prior to finalizing any design, we started by removing all the flooring, fixtures, and any drywall/tiles on the walls. At this point, the final designs were done, now the trades are able to come in. All new plumbing and electrical was done, along with proper ventilation (to accommodate for the shower as well as the dryer). We also installed in-floor heating under the floor tiles to keep the feet warm. Next, we added sound/fire retardent insulation to the walls and we re-drywalled the space. Once that was done, now the new spa shower was installed including the tiles in the shower as well as the floor tiles. A custom vanity was made and installed with a solid quartz double vanity top. Black fixtures and hardware was used as accent, and simple pot lights in the ceiling along with 2 vanity lights.

The laundry area was moved to behind the door to the bathroom with a stackable washer/dryer unit with the addition of a small laundry sink next to the unit. This way, the laundry wasn’t the first item you looked at. The warm tones of the wood on the vanity was also duplicated in the cabinetry surrounding the laundry, and the vanity wall tiles were also added as a back splash in the laundry area to tie it all together.

Overall, the client loves their new space blending the colours and making a warm, welcoming space.
