This large main floor remodel tackled a open kitchen to the living room and dining room, the laundry room and the master bedroom. The existing kitchen felt closed off from the rest of the space because of the counter island on the living room side, forced you to walk around the island into the kitchen. There was a doorway with a sliding door from the kitchen to the laundry room which limited the size of the fridge and the amount of cabinets. For the remodel, the doorway was closed off and the fridge was set back into the wall to make it appear as a cabinet depth fridge. We did this by taking some space from the massive laundry room. Also by closing this doorway, it allowed the client to move the fridge over and created larger cabinets on that wall. The counter island was moved to the exterior wall and created a larger counter for to allow for seating and entertaining.
On the main floor, the existing oak flooring was removed and acacia walnut hardwood flooring was installed. For consistency, this flooring ran thru the kitchen, living, dining, and master bedroom. In the living room, the existing gas fireplace was removed and a new gas fireplace was installed that allowed zero clearance on the floor and a new fireplace surround was installed for a more modern design.
Even thought the client’s space had a great deal of natural light, every space had all new lighting added to bring light to the space on those dark days.
