My client wanted to take this blast from the past design and bring it to the future. They felt it was too dark and old cottage feel. For the space, the client was looking for a brighter feel with soft colours.
For the colour scheme, I choose a soft grey for the walls and accented the window wall with a blue and the new furnishings being added are darker tones, so with the lighter colours it would balance the space. This space is also open to the kitchen and the foyer so I wanted the design to flow into the other spaces with more neutral colours. The trim was originally a white MDF and was changed to knotty pine stained in a light brown to add that cottage feel. The ceiling was also updated by painting it white to cover the terracotta colour. All the furnishings were replaced with pieces the client had. The art work on the wall was given to the client from their son who had painted it from scenes of the lake. Since these painting have a great sentimental value, I made this a focal point in the dining area and framed it out with the arrangement on the credenza. Now the overall design feels light and bright.
